March Is Here!

March is here and I’m so itchy to get into the garden. However, patience is my friend. There is not much outside work to do yet. Leave the leaves and overwintered plants alone until the temps are above 50/55 degrees and the beneficial insects have hatched from their winter slumber in your gardens. When you start to see bugs flying around then you can think about tidying up a bit more. I’ll share those tips when it warms up here.

In March I prune my blueberry bushes, trim off broken branches, and trim branches that are touching the ground or house. I steer clear of pruning my flowering bushes too much because the buds are set for this spring. I’ll get to those in the weeks after they bloom.

I’ll also sharpen and clean my gardening tools and figure out what new tools I want to try this year. I have a few in mind. Can't wait to try them.

I’m also making a plan for what plants to move and what new things to try. I’m into native perennial grasses this year so you’ll see some new things growing here.

There are so many amazing gardeners out there and I’m loving reading about their work and techniques. My goal is to learn what they do and try to simplify techniques so that you can more easily take care of your own yard.

Happy Gardening!
